about
ARIEL MARTINEZ
IT · LINUX · NETWORKING · SECURITY

Certified in networking, security, and Linux, with a foundation in systems administration and network infrastructure. Currently seeking an IT role while building hands-on experience through labs and personal projects.

I'm drawn to understanding how systems actually work underneath the tools used every day — especially Linux, networking, operating system internals, and the path between software and hardware. My netfilter firewall project came from wanting to understand what iptables is doing under the hood.

Having spent time internationally, I learned early on how to adapt quickly and communicate with people from various backgrounds.

Outside of tech, I run and train CrossFit. Both have taught me to value consistency, discipline, and steady progress over time.

experience
Client-Facing Support Health & Wellness Studio

Gained client-facing support experience in a health and wellness front-desk role, assisting clients with scheduling, intake, questions, services, and any concerns. Developed communication and problem-solving skills through daily interaction — listening to what people needed, explaining options clearly, and resolving issues on the spot.

projects
proj_001  ·  C / LINUX KERNEL
Netfilter Packet Filter Firewall
Built a custom packet-filtering firewall as a Linux kernel module in C, using the netfilter framework to inspect and filter traffic at the kernel level. Designed a three-VM network environment with an attacker, gateway firewall, and internal server across separate subnets. Implemented IP routing, port-based filtering, dynamic IP blocking via /proc, and kernel-level logging.
C Linux Kernel Netfilter VMware Fusion Ubuntu Server 24.04
proj_002  ·  WINDOWS SERVER / SYSADMIN
Active Directory Lab
Set up a Windows Server 2022 domain controller in a VM with AD, DNS, DHCP, and an OU structure. Automated user and group provisioning with PowerShell instead of the GUI. Configured GPOs for password and security policies, and set up delegation so helpdesk accounts could only reset passwords in their assigned OU. Integrated an Ubuntu VM into the domain with SSSD so domain users could SSH in with their AD credentials.
